Oman will continue its diplomatic efforts to ensure the safety of shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. This was stated by the country’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Badr bin Hammad bin Hamoud al-Busaidi, during his address at the general debate of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly.

According to the minister, all parties must cooperate to guarantee the safety of shipping in the strait and take into account the interests of all stakeholders using this transit route. Al-Busaidi called for adherence to international law and the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.

The head of Oman’s Foreign Ministry linked the stability of shipping in the Strait of Hormuz to broader economic and regional implications. According to Elaosboa, disruptions to shipping threaten energy security and price stability, while escalation could complicate trade and heighten security risks in the region.

Commitment to Dialogue

Al-Busaidi confirmed that Oman intends to maintain its commitment to dialogue as a means of resolving crises and disputes. He noted that it is precisely through dialogue that common interests can be identified and agreed-upon solutions reached. The minister also stated that the region is experiencing a war that, in his words, could have been avoided.

Oman called on the parties involved to exercise restraint, show foresight, and participate more actively in negotiations. Muscat believes that protracted disputes must be resolved through political agreements that take into account the interests of all parties and foster lasting mutual understanding.

SANA reports that the statement came amid regional tensions and a reduction in ship traffic through the strategic waterway. The publication does not provide specific figures on changes in shipping traffic.

Support from Gulf States

Oman expressed solidarity with neighboring states, including members of the Gulf Cooperation Council, in their efforts to protect security, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. At the same time, Muscat called on all parties to resolve remaining differences through restraint and dialogue.

Oman’s position involves balancing the protection of freedom of navigation with compliance with international norms and respect for the interests of states, companies, and other stakeholders using maritime corridors. The statement also reaffirmed the country’s readiness to cooperate with the United Nations to strengthen international stability.

Call for a Political Settlement in Yemen

Separately, the minister reaffirmed support for a political solution to the Yemeni crisis. According to him, the settlement must preserve Yemen’s unity, stability, and territorial integrity, as well as take into account the rights and interests of its population.

Oman called on all Yemeni parties to engage effectively toward a just political agreement. Such an agreement, as al-Busaidi noted, must guarantee Yemenis their rights, dignity, and independence; create conditions for the country’s recovery and development; and ensure stable relations between Yemen and its neighbors.

According to information provided by SANA, the general debate of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly began on Tuesday and is scheduled to continue through September 28, according to the organization’s official program.
