Real Madrid defeated Sevilla 4-1 at the Bernabéu stadium, extending their winning run to three matches before the Clásico. Arda Guler opened the scoring and Diomande struck the final goal, according to Spanish newspaper El Periódico.
The result came in a match that also featured disputes over an incident involving Guler and the build-up to Madrid’s second goal. Sevilla scored through Manu Bueno after Madrid had established a three-goal lead.
Guler and Mbappé put Madrid ahead
Guler broke the deadlock around the half-hour mark. The Madrid player finished with a left-footed shot after receiving a pass from teammate Diomande.
Mbappé then scored Madrid’s second, beginning his move with a spinning turn before finding the net. Sevilla protested that Urie had been fouled earlier in the build-up to the goal.
Before half-time, Madrid goalkeeper Courtois saved a shot from Sevilla’s Agoumé. Madrid went into the interval with the two-goal advantage established by Guler and Mbappé.
Penalty extends the lead before Sevilla reply
Madrid added their third goal in the second half after a penalty was awarded for Castrin’s foul on Mbappé. Diomande had supplied the pass to Mbappé before the foul.
Manu Bueno then scored Sevilla’s only goal after his team won possession. His strike reduced the deficit, but Diomande answered with a powerful shot to complete the 4-1 scoreline.
Diomande’s contribution therefore included the pass for the opening goal, his involvement before the penalty and Madrid’s fourth. His goal followed Sevilla’s reply and was the last of the five scored in the match.
Guler incident draws scrutiny
El Periódico reported that Guler elbowed opposing player Peque before scoring the opener. It said match referee Busquets did not see the incident and the video assistant referee did not call him to review it for a possible sending-off.
The newspaper criticised the handling of that incident. Its account offered no official explanation for the video referee’s decision not to intervene.
Sevilla’s separate protest concerned the move leading to Mbappé’s goal. Despite those disputed incidents, Madrid finished with a four-goal total and a third successive victory heading into the Clásico.
