Qatar’s Foreign Ministry said on October 6 that the United States and Iran were continuing talks and exchanging messages through mediation. At the ministry’s weekly briefing, an official said the efforts sought progress toward a negotiated solution to the conflict, taking both sides’ concerns into account.
Ibrahim bin Sultan Al-Hashimi, the ministry’s director of media and communications, said Qatar’s mediation had continued without interruption. His account covered both the exchanges between Washington and Tehran and the broader diplomatic work involving Doha and its regional partners.
Mediation covers issues concerning both sides
Al-Hashimi said the aim was to achieve progress that could provide a basis for further discussions. The mediation covered the range of issues concerning the United States and Iran, rather than a single subject, according to the Qatari Foreign Ministry.
He said resolving the conflict required efforts to find solutions through negotiation while considering the concerns of all parties. In remarks reported by Xinhua, he also pointed to the scale of the conflict and the cost borne around the world as reasons to pursue a negotiated end.
Contacts include Iranian minister’s visit
Diplomatic contacts and visits were also continuing, Al-Hashimi said, according to Indonesian news agency ANTARA. He cited a visit to Doha by Eskandar Momeni, Iran’s interior minister, as part of those contacts. Doha is the Qatari city involved in the diplomatic exchanges.
Al-Hashimi said Qatar could not disclose details of the ongoing exchanges, according to Xinhua’s account of the briefing. The contents of the messages and the specific subjects under discussion remain undisclosed, leaving the public account focused on the continuation of contacts and their stated aims.
Earlier agreement failed to stop fighting
Qatar and Pakistan are mediating between the US and Iranian governments to end the conflict, ANTARA reported, citing Anadolu. The agency dated the start of the conflict to late February 2026, placing the latest diplomatic update more than seven months after fighting began.
An initial agreement reached in June failed to stop the fighting, according to the same report. Al-Hashimi’s October 6 briefing described continuing mediation and message exchanges aimed at reaching progress that the two sides could build on.
