A Russian strike on Kyiv killed one person and injured at least 10 on October 26, while the death toll from a drone attack on Russia's Voronezh remained unsettled after conflicting local reports. The exchanges hit cities, trains and industrial sites on both sides of the border.
Voronezh toll remains disputed
Voronezh regional governor Alexander Gusev said two people were killed and 17 injured after drones hit the Russian city overnight into October 26. He said most of the wounded were passengers on a suburban train when debris from a downed drone struck the carriages, and two of them were in critical condition.
Later, the Croatian outlet Index.hr reported that Gusev had confirmed three deaths. The tally in Voronezh was therefore not settled in the available reports, even as the injuries were described in detail.
Russian Railways said a carriage on train No. 11, which runs from Anapa on the Black Sea to Moscow, was damaged. Rail traffic in the region was briefly suspended after the attack.
Fires broke out at industrial sites
Gusev said Russian air defences shot down more than 70 drones over Voronezh. He also said fires broke out at several industrial facilities, a business centre in the city centre and a residential building, though he said the industrial sites were not badly damaged.
Local reports named the Voronezhsintezkauchuk plant, which makes synthetic rubber and polymer materials, and VASO, the Voronezh Aircraft Manufacturing Association, which participates in producing Il-96 aircraft and makes aviation components. The independent Russian outlet ASTRA said a drone hit the Gallery Chizhov business centre and that at least 10 cars burned in a parking lot. The Kyiv Independent said the scale of the damage could not be independently confirmed and that it was unclear whether nearby blasts were direct hits or falling debris.
A spokeswoman for Voronezh State University said several faculties temporarily moved classes online after the attack.
Kyiv reported one death and multiple injuries
In Kyiv, Mayor Vitalii Klitschko said one person was killed and at least 10 injured in a Russian attack on the Ukrainian capital on the evening of October 26. President Volodymyr Zelensky said Russian ballistic missiles hit university grounds and that there were no military facilities nearby.
Reports from the capital said damage extended to a university dormitory, a school, a hospital and residential buildings. Zelensky also said the strikes hit very busy areas of the city.
More strikes hit other Ukrainian regions
Ukraine's air force said Russia launched 140 drones and four missiles at the country, while Ukrainian air defences shot down 112 drones and three Kh-59/69 missiles. Euronews reported that separate Russian attacks injured four people in Zaporizhzhia, two in Chernihiv region and three in Izium.
In Khmelnytskyi region, emergency power cuts were introduced after a strike damaged an energy facility.
