Global events. Facts. Context.

BULLETIN.OBSERVER Newsroom

We follow major world events as they develop: each story is built from many publishers’ reports, shows which sources agree and where they differ, and is updated when new facts appear.

Our principles

We report what sources say and how they agree — we do not declare what is true or false. Every story lists its sources with links to the originals. Statements are attributed to whoever made them, estimates to whoever gave them. Numbers, dates and names come only from the sources.

We correct mistakes openly: corrections and claims that were later not confirmed stay visible in the story’s timeline.

How the automation works

Our software watches clusters of reports from hundreds of publishers and selects events that several independent publishers cover. A language model first lists the facts, statements and open questions in the sources, then writes a version of the story in each language from that list. Software — not the model — checks that every number, date and quotation appears in the sources, counts independent publishers (reprints of one agency report count once) and sets the status of each claim. When new reports appear, the story is updated in place and the change is shown under “What changed”.

Automated stories are signed by the newsroom, not by a person, and are labelled as prepared with the help of artificial intelligence.

What people do

People in the newsroom set the editorial rules, the sources and the checks the software applies, review reader error reports and correction requests, and can edit any story by hand. A story is signed by a person only when that person wrote or edited it; the edit is recorded in the story’s version history.

Contact

To report an error, use the “Found a mistake?” link under any story or write to the newsroom.

Who does what

Roles marked “AI model” are performed by AI models under rules set by the newsroom. Claim statuses are calculated by software from the sources, not by a model.
