Google is expanding ads inside its AI-powered Search experience to 10 new countries, including India, Canada and Australia, while preparing further launches in Brazil, Mexico and the UK later this year. The move matters because it turns Google’s AI search push into a broader revenue play at a time when Search advertising growth is slowing.
AI Mode ads go international
Shashi Thakur, Google’s vice president and general manager for Search Ads and Ads on Google Experiences, said queries in AI Mode are, on average, three times longer than traditional searches. Google says that longer, more conversational prompts help it match people with businesses and services more precisely.
The new markets are Australia, Canada, India, Kenya, Malaysia, New Zealand, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Philippines and Singapore. Google says Brazil, Mexico and the United Kingdom are next in the fourth quarter of 2026, but it has not given a specific date for the Brazilian launch.
The company also said the ads will be clearly labelled “Sponsored”. In the United States, Google is adding multiturn ads, which can appear in follow-up questions inside AI Mode instead of only on the first query.
Early tests and the revenue pressure behind the rollout
Google says its internal testing in the US found sponsored and organic product listings in AI Mode produced similar click-through rates. It did not publish absolute figures, and it did not provide independent results. The company also said users were comfortable with the ads and found them relevant.
The expansion comes as Alphabet, Google’s parent company, reported third-quarter revenue of $127.6 billion, up 25% from a year earlier. Google Services, the division that includes Search, brought in $96.3 billion and grew 11%, while Google Cloud rose 103% to $30.7 billion.
Search advertising still grew, but at a slower pace than before, rising 12% in the third quarter after 17% growth in the second quarter and 19% in the first. Alphabet shares fell 8% after the results, underscoring investor sensitivity to how quickly AI products turn into ad revenue.
Google said search queries have grown at their fastest pace in five years, without giving an exact rate. Sundar Pichai, the chief executive, said AI Mode queries are about three times longer than traditional searches, and that about one-fifth of AI Mode searches globally involve voice, images or documents.
The company said visual search now exceeds 50 billion queries a month. It has also been linking the ad push to its wider Gemini product line, including conversational discovery ads and sponsored recommendations announced in May.
